Tom Grant is a former Los Angeles County sheriff. He joined the department in 1969 (when Courtney was all of 4 years old and Kurt was 2), where he was promoted to detective after a few short years. In 1975, he left to go into business for himself as a security consultant and california state licenced private investigator. His client list includes some of Hollywood's biggest names.

Tom Grant has not been, nor probably ever will be, sued by Courtney Love or her people over the information his has gathered, and made public in his investigation. Many feel that she knows if she took him to court (something Grant actually welcomes), all the details of his investigation would come out into the open, especially the stuff he has chosen not to make public yet.

This is the same Courtney that went on a rant when Vanity Fair had the nerve to say that she used heroin up while pregnant with Frances in a 1992 article. She denied the story to anyone who would listen, and made threats to sue Vanity Fair, as well as Lynn Hirschberg, who wrote the article. Hirschberg also recieved phone and mail threats from Courtney, and was attacked by her at the 1995 Oscars. She never did sue. In 1995 Courtney finally admitted to Request magazine that she had taken heroin during her pregnancy, "or else I would have sued her (Hirschberg's) ass off". She has also been quoted as saying "because they were right, and if I took them to court, the truth would come out".

That must be why she won't sue Grant, Wallace, Halperin, Broomfield et al, because if she did she would find herself in deep trouble.
